Hailed as #25 on VH1’s List of 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock, Cheap Trick gained international success when their live concert album titled “Cheap Trick at Budokan” was released in 1978. The album went triple platinum in the United States and spawned the international smash hit “I Want You to Want Me.”
In the two years after the “Cheap Trick at Budokan” release, Cheap Trick produced hit singles “Dream Police,” “Voices” and “Stop This Game” and later recorded the platinum-selling album “Lap of Luxury.” They reached #1 status with the ballad “The Flame” and continued their stay on the top 10 charts with a cover of Elvis Presley’s “Don’t Be Cruel.”
Cheap Trick has contributed songs to 29 movie soundtracks, including the end-title song “Mighty Wings” for “Top Gun” and the theme song for 2009’s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” The band has recorded theme songs for television shows “That 70’s Show” and “The Colbert Report.”
Proving their multi-generational influence, Cheap Trick has recently been touring with Def Leppard and Poison while two of their songs are featured as playable tracks in the hit video games “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” and “Rock Band 2.” Cheap Trick’s latest album, appropriately named “The Latest,” debuted in 2009 on CD, vinyl and 8-track, and has garnered positive reviews from critics and fans.
Celebrating their 35th anniversary together, the original lineup of the band is still intact with lead vocalist Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson, and drummer Bun E. Carlos.
